Wollo University has once again showcased its expanding global presence and innovative spirit at the World Food Forum 2025 in Rome, Italy.
Representing the University with pride and creativity, the “Green Scholars”—a dynamic team of young innovators—participated in the Youth Food Lab final event. This inspiring event is a follow-up to the impactful Food Systems Innovation Challenge held in the Netherlands in 2024, where Wollo University first gained recognition for its youth-led agrifood innovations.
In a powerful display of collaboration, the Green Scholars joined forces with ten other outstanding teams from around the world to form the Youth Agri-preneurs Development Initiative (YADI)—a united platform established to enhance global networking, shared learning, and transformative impact.
Our journey on the global stage continues, as Wollo University’s next-generation innovators—Team “Pumpkin Power”—are set to represent Ethiopia once again at the World Food Forum Flagship Event in Rome, Italy, in 2026, further strengthening the University’s role as a hub for applied innovation and sustainable agricultural transformation.
Across the YADI network, teams are developing groundbreaking solutions—from sustainable food storage innovations in Ghana, to insect-based poultry feed in Nepal, and nutrition-centered learning in Ethiopia. Together, these young change makers have launched a global crowdfunding campaign to expand their reach and bring their ideas to life within their communities.
This milestone is more than a moment of recognition—it marks a defining chapter in Wollo University’s transformation into a University of Applied Sciences, where knowledge meets practice, and innovation is anchored in real-world impact. The success of the Green Scholars within YADI reflects the University’s unwavering commitment to experiential learning, research-based innovation, and youth-driven entrepreneurship that addresses both local and global challenges.
