Research Workshop Held at Wollo University

Wollo University hosted a research workshop on “Equity Perspectives for Irrigation Care/Control (EPIC)”, in Collaboration with Wollo Development and Entrepreneurship Trust and other international partners.

A research conducted by a consortium of dedicated institutions are: Wollo University (WU), Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD), Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Nelson Mandela African Institute of Science and Technology (NM-AIST), Wollo Development and Entrepreneurship Trust (WoDET), and IHE Delft Institute for Water Education in the Netherlands.

The project coordinator at Wollo University Dr. Seid Hussen said, in his welcoming speech, the critical importance of understanding equity in the management of shared and communal resources particularly in the allocation, distribution and care of irrigation water to ensure sustainable use for future generations.

Dr. Pooja Prasad from IIT Delhi, the project lead, presented an overview of the EPIC project at both the national and consortium levels, highlighting the collaborative and interdisciplinary approach of the initiative.

Dr. Seleshi Getahun from IHE Delft, Netherlands, offered deep and thought-provoking brief presentation on equity perspectives and the theoretical foundations underpinning them, enriching the dialogue among participants.

Representing Wollo Development and Entrepreneurship Trust (WoDeT), Dr. Abebe Kibret discussed the organization’s key role in the consortium and outlined collaborative activities undertaken with Wollo University under this project framework.

Additionally, a PhD and an MSc student attached to the project presented their research proposals and received constructive feedback from the workshop participants.

The event concluded with a vibrant and fruitful discussion, reflecting the shared commitment of all stakeholders to promoting socially inclusive and ecologically sustainable irrigation water management.
