

Research Overview
One of the missions of Wollo University is to solve community problems and foster social, economic, political, and cultural development of the area in particular and the country in general through research. To achieve this, the university is expected to identify the problem areas and prioritize them accordingly by considering the local context and the GTP of the country. Since research is one of the three pillars of the university, it is integrated in teaching-learning process where a teaching staff devotes 40% of its time for research, while research staff of the University devotes 60% of their time for research.
Research Direction
In reference to the mission statement, the University’s research direction is grounded on the following cardinal principles:
- Be relevant to the community and in line with the Growth and Transformation Plan of the country
- Provision of an intellectual stimulating environment for staff and researchers;
- Excellence in both applied and basic researches that satisfy international standards;
As a result, the directorate office has the following objectives:
- Conduct problem-oriented research on priority areas based on local, regional or nationwide interest(s)
- Making research an integral part of the teaching-learning process through interdisciplinary and group research from which students can benefit;
- Develop flexible and feasible working procedures for research proposal preparation, review and approval, and financial request;
- Create internal funding mechanisms for research and publication;
- Develop a system to award the best researchers to enhance staff motivation and productivity in research;
- Promote collaborative research with local and international research institutions and organizations that would facilitate the university’s capacity building efforts and generation of external research funds;
- Develop mechanisms for improved management of information systems and facilities access to the international literature and database;
- Establish a research and publication database;
- Develop research quality assurance mechanisms;
- Develop monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to ensure the proper implementation of research and publication activities;
- Formulate appropriate methods for the promotion and dissemination of research results.

- Plan and carry out capacity building activities for academic and research staff
