Background of School of Language Studies and Communication:
School of Language (SL) was one of the Schools established by Wollo University (WU), founded in 2018 under the College of Social Science and Humanities (CSSH) with two departments and four Unites, namely Ethiopian Language(s) and Literature- Amharic Language Department, English Language and Literature Department, Ethiopian Language(s) and Literature- Geez Language Unit, Ethiopian Language(s) and Literature- Afanoromo Unit, Arabic Language and Literature Unit, and Journalism and Communication Unit. The School currently provides six undergraduate programs in regular in all the above mentioned departments and unites. In addition to this Ethiopian Language(s) and Literature- Amharic Language Department has one undergraduate and two graduate programs in summer (Applied Linguistics in Teaching Amharic- ALTA and Master of Education in Amharic)and one graduate program in extension (ALTA). Department of English Language and Literature has also one undergraduate (English Language and Literature) in summer program, three MA degree fields ( MA in Teaching English as a Foreign Language, MA in Applied Linguistics and Communication & MA in General Linguistics) in regular, extension and summer programs and PhD in Teaching English as a Foreign Language in regular program.
Vision
School of Language envisions being one of the top ten Language Schools in terms of outstanding quality education, research and community development services in Ethiopia by 2017 E.C. (2025 G.C.).
Mission
The mission of our school is to prepare knowledgeable, skilled, and attitudinally mature graduate language experts; promote and enhance research focusing on languages education, policy, planning and cultural heritages issues; design and provide community and consultancy services consistent with the country's priority needs.
